What a Difference a Year Makes

February 2008 - Unemployment rate hits 33-year low (Canadian)

February 2009 -  Canada sheds 129,000 jobs in January

To put this into proper context, Canada has a population of 30 million.  The U.S. has 300 million.  US job losses in January totaled almost 600,000.   To be at the same percentage level of our neighbors to the north the US would have needed to lose 1.3 million jobs.

Canada is our largest trading partner.  They receive almost all of their consumer goods from or through the United States.  Jobs are like dominoes in a chain reaction.
